Today I’ll be extending an open invitation to discussing why so many people don’t understand personal space. This should be a somewhat fun discussion for those that care for interpersonal relationships and things alike.
Why do so many people don’t understand ‘personal space?’
So many people don’t understand personal space because people’s definitions of it vary. It’s actually a sign of low social intelligence, and explains why it’s even being considered basic fundamental knowledge enough to be taught in schools.
Definitions Vary
When you’re not on the same page with what’s considered personal space, there’s a chance that you could violate someone else’s definition.
There’s so many cultures across the globe that practice plenty of different behaviors in relation to social interactions that’s cool in one area, but could be a problem elsewhere.
Because the people who represent these different cultures have gotten to where they integrated and chose to co-exist with other countries and areas, this point is where there’s most likely a chance that someone’s idea of personal space could be violated.
Being Uncultured
This actually brings us to a point where we could dive further into an explanation as to why personal space isn’t understood.
There’s several cultures even just along the United States that have different practices from other regions which could be spoken to.
Basic Fundamental Knowledge
It’s revealing itself to be something that has to be learned at a very early age—personal space.
From an emotional point to even a physical representation, it’s getting emphasized throughout our school systems.
The Beginning of Understanding Social Intelligence
Social intelligence is a concept that’s taught in schools—I’m able to say that from personal experience. I think of why it’s needed and it’s because it’s another way to become a leader.
