Sonic The Hedgehog FAQs
What do you think of Sonic The Hedgehog as a character?
I think Sonic The Hedgehog as a character is interesting to say the least. He’s one that goes through so many different adventures and clearly goes through plenty of development if you take into account all of his stories that make up his life. Sonic’s known for being a mix of free-spirited independence, fierce loyalty to his friends, and a deep hatred for oppression and control. It shows pretty well actually in just the first episode of Sonic X if we’re being honest.
Why is Sonic the Hedgehog so well known if most of his games are not good?
Those early 90s to even the early 00s were highly dominant by Sonic culture. The games were basic but fun enough to where anybody that got interested in Sonic was able to (and actually wanted to) follow his games throughout his run. Regardless on how fun his games was, he was making a staple that stuck well enough to where his fandom followed him to each and every game that was developed. You need to take into account that his run was aligned with several consoles that were hot at the time. Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, and Nintendo GameCube only proved how accessible and easy it was to keep up with this character of a hedgehog.
Take the actual opinion of the games out of the way. That alone should speak to how much Sonic was marketed. He had a couple TV shows that were popular to contribute and plenty of merchandise that kept his name relevant.
